The wording accompanying the title of this article explains the circumstances. My presentation, given at a conference abroad, aimed to establish the conditions by which all French-speaking audiences could enter the literary text. As is known, the phrase "French as a foreign language" developed by Bernard Quemada when he was teaching at the University of Besançon, abbreviated as "FLE", designates the product acquired through specific methods, to which I am not a stranger since I contributed to the development of level 2 of "Fundamental French" initiated by Georges Guggenheim. I was practicing at the time at the Applied Phonetics Laboratory, located in an incomparable setting, at No. 1 Place des Vosges, in Paris. There I had notably tested our audiovisual products before an audience supposedly totally ignorant of French, the young Chinese mentioned in the first Franco-Chinese agreement De Gaulle-Mao-Tse-Tung in 1984. But here, I was addressing academics, practicing FLE, by introducing cultural analysis of texts.
This title implicitly referred to a famous television program (1953-1968), very popular with foreigners, suppressed for its commitment in favor of revolutionary students.
