
DONATIEN ALPHONSE FRANÇOIS DE SADE
Donatien Alphonse François de Sade, commonly known as the Marquis de Sade, born on June 2, 1740 in Paris and died on December 2, 1814 in Charenton-Saint-Maurice (now Saint-Maurice, Val-de-Marne), was a French nobleman, novelist, and philosopher. He is known for the place given in his work to eroticism and pornography, often associated with acts of violence and cruelty (torture, incest, rape, pedophilia, murder, etc.). The expression of virulent anti-clerical atheism is one of the most recurring themes in his writings. He is the author of numerous works of various genres that have made him one of the most prominent figures in world literature.
