CARL EINSTEIN

Carl Einstein, or Karl Einstein, was a German art historian and writer, born on April 26, 1885 in a Jewish family in Neuwied (Rhineland Province) and died on July 5, 1940 (at age 55) at the Franco-Spanish border. He belongs to the expressionist movement, and was, moreover, a collaborator of Jean Renoir. An anarchist, he fought during the Spanish social revolution of 1936. To avoid falling into the hands of the Nazis, he committed suicide in 1940.
