within the framework of the Association for Research and Study of Surrealism (APRES). Reception by Martine Lusardy

Saturday, November 10, 2018: Monique Dorsel and Charles Gonzales: crossed paths, theater and poetry. Dialogue and readings. With the participation of Françoise Armengaud, Mireille Calle-Gruber and Françoise Py.

Monique Dorsel and Charles Gonzales are two exceptional actors, linked to surrealism by the authors they have defended and, in the case of Charles Gonzales, by his proximity to Artaud's work. He practices in his own way a "theater of cruelty" in the plays he directs, making theater a place of alchemical transformation that releases forces. In true actor performances, he embodies a "theater difficult and cruel first for oneself" as Artaud wanted. His work, Récit d'une noce obscure: l'incandescent Antonin Artaud, published by La Feuille de thé in 2013, is "a poetic act," to use his own terms, where he gives voice to the haunted speech of a character named A.A. He illuminates Artaud's inner drama through a voice emerging from the depths of his own body as Artaud had done in 1947 for his Vincent Van Gogh le suicidé de la société.

The collaboration between Monique Dorsel and Charles Gonzales dates from 2005, when she hosted his show Charles Gonzales Becomes Camille Claudel at the Théâtre-Poème in Brussels and a little later his Trilogy: Camille Claudel, Sarah Kane and Thérèse d'Avilla. From this was born a rich collaboration and a wonderful friendship. Charles Gonzales for his part will have her act in Samuel Beckett's Oh les beaux jours, in Cocteau's La Voix humaine and in other shows he directs.

Saturday, February 9, 2019: Mouradian gallery owner, 41 rue de Seine (1926-1974) by Monique and Georges Sebbag, in the presence of José-Maria Jimenez-Alfaro, grandson of Aram Mouradian.

Aram Mouradian

The history of this gallery is exemplary. Aram Mouradian (1892-1974), an Englishman of Armenian origin, and Leonard Van Leer (1889-1950), a Dutchman of Jewish origin, associate and found a gallery at 41, rue de Seine on January 18, 1926. In accordance with their credo "Painting since Cézanne," they rely on Derain, Pascin, Renoir, Segonzac, Utrillo or Vlaminck. They promote young painters like Krémègne, Gritchenko, Charlotte Gardelle, Valentine Prax or Kotchar, most often from abroad. Above all, and this is a point that has been concealed until now, their gallery forges a very strong link with surrealism. In March 1926, fifty works by Max Ernst are exhibited. This is the artist's first solo surrealist exhibition. Another will follow in March 1927. The 41 rue de Seine, which offers four advertising spaces in La Révolution surréaliste, is the gallery most in phase with surrealism. Picabia (October 1927), Roland Penrose (June 1928), Delbrouck and Defize (April 1929, catalog prefaced by André Breton) and Man Ray (November 1929) are entitled to a solo exhibition. Chirico and Miró are present in group exhibitions.
