A NEW UNIVERSE OF RESEARCH

PUBLICATIONS DIVERSES

[H. Béhar et al] "A New Universe of Research": Frantext, around a textual database. Paris, Didier Érudition, 1992, pp. 137-166.

The FRANTEXT database is a Gaullist project implemented in Nancy in the early 1960s. It was originally intended for personnel initiated to its use. However, the evolution of computing, the practice of networks has meant that researchers have been able to query it from their own research center or university library. This was happening at a time when Bernard Quemada was directing the INaLF and wanted to offer the tool to the maximum number of users. This is why the documentation manager, Evelyne Martin, approached the various facilitators to collect their testimonies. Solicited in my capacity as director of the research unit, constituted at the University Paris III under the title of URL V (Research Unit in Lexicology), I made it my duty to give voice to the most active researchers in the team. Let us not forget that at this date, the personal computer was not yet widespread, and that one had to be identified and duly recognized to access FRANTEXT, today open to all.
