BECKETT’S THEATER UNDER THE EYE OF NEW TECHNOLOGIES

PUBLICATIONS DIVERSESHUBERT DE PHALÈSE

"Beckett's Theater Under the Eye of New Technologies", Reading Beckett, texts collected by Didier Alexandre and Jean-Yves Debreuille, Presses universitaires de Lyon, 1998, pp. 111-120.

For the first time, Samuel Beckett's theatrical work was included in the 1998 literature agrégation program. Not the entire work, but his first two plays. A beautiful opportunity for me to make known my computer-assisted work! The Hubert de Phalèse team therefore set to work during the summer, and produced a work published in the Cap'agreg collection at Nizet editions:

At the same time, several publishers wanted to offer works for exam preparation. A team of Lyon teacher-researchers organized a day on Beckett, to which I proposed an intervention on the use of digital tools in the analysis of our Nobel Prize winner's theatrical work, which, it must be specified, had never been done before. Back cover: Beckett enters university: the inclusion of two of his plays in the Literature agrégation program was an opportunity to solicit the skills of the Society for the Study of 20th Century French Literature. This book presents the reflections of specialists gathered for this occasion, who examined the plays from various angles, according to diverse methods, and attempted to elucidate this theater of nothingness and death, elevated to the edge of silence.

Observing the similarity of the golem myth with computer functioning, Literature and its Golem (Paris, 1996) envisaged the machine's contribution to the study of literature. The present volume extends the reflection by showing the performances of the Literary History Database in approaching literary genres, the periodization of this history and in its renewal. The second part envisages the theoretical constitution of an average reader that it sees investigating through vast corpora. Finally, the last part exploits a corpus of surrealist works by characterizing the novelistic discourse in René Crevel, the national color of Aragon's poems, the thematics of The Surrealist Revolution, and by applying automatic processing to the Manifestos.
