THE AUTHOR’S CULTURE AND THE READER’S COMPETENCE, CONTEMPORARY LITERATURES

PASSAGE EN REVUES

"THE AUTHOR'S CULTURE AND THE READER'S COMPETENCE IN THE FLANDERS ROAD", CONTEMPORARY LITERATURES, NO. 3, ÉD. KLINCKSIECK, 1997, PP. 207-27.

The French agrégation competition in literature, for the year 1998, included Claude Simon's major work, The Flanders Road (1960). A fine opportunity for two members of the Hubert de Phalèse team who were then preparing a thesis on this author (Pascal Mougin and Patrick Rebollar) to showcase their knowledge and put it at the service of candidates. As agreed, our research group applied its analysis tools and produced a volume during the summer, logically entitled "Code of The Flanders Road" (see below). This title pleased the director of Éditions Klincksieck very much, who then asked me to collaborate on the journal Contemporary Literatures. I therefore proposed to him a complement to our collective work attempting to establish a synthesis of Claude Simon's culture structuring his novel.
