Conference Octavio Paz and the Orient by Hervé-Pierre Lambert

Sunday October 26, 2014, at 3pm:

Tribute to Octavio Paz: Conference Octavio Paz and the Orient by Hervé-Pierre Lambert on the occasion of the release of his eponymous book by Classiques Garnier editions (Perspectives comparatistes collection). Debate with the author and Jean-Clarence Lambert, at the Halle Saint-Pierre

Double tribute by Hervé-Pierre Lambert to the poet, Nobel Prize in Literature, whose centenary would be celebrated this year. Octavio Paz was appointed ambassador of Mexico to India in 1962. A position he would abandon in October 1968 in protest during the repression of Tlatelolco students. This passage through India and its cultural shock was decisive. This work, at the crossroads of world cultures, welcomes and makes dialogue pre-Columbian mythology, surrealism, Buddhism, Hinduism or even Japanese poetry. Hervé-Pierre Lambert will speak to us about the so fruitful confrontations in Paz's work between Mexico and the Orient, Eastern thought and Western modernity.
