The upcoming issues of the Mélusine journal

The next issues of Mélusine in preparation:

1) Eroticism and Surrealism

The central dossier of Mélusine XXXV, to be published in the first quarter of 2015, will be dedicated to the theme "Eroticism and Surrealism." Not long ago, Sarane Alexandrian called for an in-depth study of surrealist eroticism, believing that one could not rely on two or three isolated cases of poets or visual artists to define the movement's overall attitude in this regard. He thus outlined the program of future research: "Essentially, this consists of clarifying these questions: who, within surrealism, spoke about eroticism? When and how was it discussed? What influence did works of this genre have on the evolution of the movement?" The upcoming volume will verify each point of this statement by examining surrealism's theories and productions in the different artistic domains and in the various places where it emerged.

2) Masculine-Feminine

The central dossier of the Mélusine journal, issue XXXVI, to be published in the first quarter of 2016, will be dedicated to the "Masculine-Feminine" articulation. Among the most harmful received ideas concerning it, it is accepted that surrealism, essentially composed of men, developed an active machismo. The first task of a somewhat scientific mind would be to look more closely and verify the degree of accuracy of such an assertion. Without eliminating the biographical aspect, nor the role of the individual, conscious and unconscious, in each creation, we would like to revisit the problem of the generic character of an artistic work and the representations it elicits, based on its own informants, without determinism or simplistic positivism.
