Before the 50th anniversary that the Fondation Marguerite et Aimé Maeght is preparing to celebrate in 2014, it is partnering with the Fonds Hélène & Édouard Leclerc to pay tribute to Joan Miró on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of his birth. The artist was born on April 20, 1893, in Barcelona and died thirty years ago, on December 25, 1983, in Palma de Majorca.

The Capucins in Landerneau

First exhibition of the Catalan artist in the great west of France, the Miró exhibition at the art center of the Fonds Hélène & Édouard Leclerc brings together about 450 works. It is essentially built around exceptional ensembles of works from the Maeght Foundation in Saint-Paul de Vence in the Alpes-Maritimes. Except for the Miró Foundation in Barcelona, no other institution can offer from a single site, in such a rich, documented, and thoughtful way by the artist himself, such a representation of his work from 1930 onwards. It is therefore from this date until 1983, and from the privileged relationship he maintained with the Maeght family, that this exhibition is organized.

It focuses on the second period of Joan Miró's career, when he, while remaining faithful to painting, approaches new artistic expressions and develops an exceptional, inventive, and singular work. Photos below, Sophie Béhar.
