THE ROMANIAN FRIENDS OF TRISTAN TZARA, MANUSCRIPTUM

PASSAGE EN REVUES

"THE ROMANIAN FRIENDS OF TRISTAN TZARA", MANUSCRIPTUM, (BUCHAREST), 1981, N° 2, P. 156-166, N° 3, P. 131-145, N° 4, P. 168-182; 1982 N°1 P. 160-165, N° 2 P. 160-166.

Here you will find the complete reproduction of the article, published in French and Romanian, in five issues of the Romanian journal Manuscriptum, journal of the Museum of Romanian Literature, then published under the direction of Al Opréa (1931-1983). He relates the circumstances of our meeting in Paris, during a conference on Panait Istrati at the Sorbonne, of our discussions and his order concerning the documents addressed to Tristan Tzara by his Romanian friends, kept at the Jacques Doucet Literary Library (BLJD).

A few months later, I therefore sent him a typescript containing the complete copy of these pieces and their translation done with the help of G. Doca, our Romanian assistant. This exceeded the scope of one issue. He decided on the layout, illustration and distribution of the texts, presented by me, in a series of issues.

Subsequently, I was given the opportunity to go to Bucharest to speak about Tristan Tzara at the French Embassy, and to meet Al Oprea there again. I had the privilege of going to Targu Jiu, where Brancusi's monumental sculptures stand: The Endless Column, The Gate of the Kiss, The Table of Silence... But that's another subject, which I would have to address elsewhere. The most important thing, in my memory, is that I had the opportunity to welcome, as a former Vice-President of UNEF, the poet Sacha Pana to the House of Letters, rue Jean Calvin, in Paris, in 1965, at a time when it was very difficult for him to leave his country, and that, through him, I came into contact with many Romanian authors, on their lands.
