"DOES SURRÉALIST THEATER EXIST?", L'AVANT-SCÈNE OPÉRA, N° 210, SEPTEMBER 2002, PP. 118-121.
You know how it goes: a relatively unknown work is announced to be staged, and moreover its transposition to opera. At most, we know that the librettist, Georges Neveux, has rubbed shoulders with the surrealists. So the press wonders: can we say it's a surrealist work? And more globally, is there a surrealist theater? It's easy to refer to my work on the subject, available in paperback format. But they want to quickly inform the reader, so they ask me for a brief article, in four pages. Here it is, in full page. For me, it's a definitive synthesis.
