ANDRÉ BRETON, INDEX OF THE COMPLETE WORKS
Index of the Complete Works of A. Breton

Below you will first find the general alphabetical index of André Breton’s Complete Works. This in fact includes all the works published during his lifetime, most of which were issued in paperback editions. Listed here, therefore, are all the words (both common and proper nouns, with or without capitals) used by the author, arranged in alphabetical order, with, on the same line, the number of times each occurs in this corpus. To the best of my knowledge, and to put it simply, André Breton’s vocabulary amounts to 42,353 forms. It’s up to the reader to decide if this is rich, more refined, or more complex than that of Racine, Victor Hugo, or one of the poets of his generation. The immediate value of this list is that it allows us to see which words were used by the writer—and, conversely, which ones are absent. Finally, let us recall that any scientific measurement allows for an approximation of +_ 5%. Software used: TXM from ENS de Lyon. I especially thank Michel Bernard for once again joining me on this digital venture.
My thanks to Étienne Brunet (University of Nice), whose Hyperbase software helped me create this alphabetical index.

Our tools offer other sorts of listings, which will be of great interest to both researchers and enthusiasts.
Here is an index with page references from the Pléiade edition. To reduce the file size, I have removed pronouns and extremely frequent particles.
